Overall : With all the virility of the Côte Brune, La Turque also has all the subtlety and femininity of the Côte Blonde.

Vintages 2004

Wine Advocate #182 - Apr 2009

Score : 93

The 2004 Cote Rotie La Turque exhibits hints of green pepper and bouquet garni intermixed with notions of graphite, blackberries, cherries, and smoky beef. A denser, more tannic, and structured effort than La Mouline, La Turque will benefit from another year or two of bottle age. It should keep for 10-15 years. Drink: 2010 - 2025. Robert Parker.

Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2008

Score: 94

Still tight, but with an ample core of hoisin sauce, licorice, black currant preserve and espresso. There's great length and lovely texture through the finish, which is filled with dark plum, cocoa and iron. Drink now through 2023. 350 cases made. James Molesworth.

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - Jan/Feb 06

Score : 96-98

Dense ruby color. Powerful, expressive aromas of cherry preserves, wild strawberry, plum, pipe tobacco, Asian spices and licorice pastille. Almost exaggerated in its expression of cherry in every form imaginable: griotte, jammy, candied, medicinal. Lush and thick but enlivened by tangy, redder fruit qualities, as well as by a strong note of iodine. This has remarkable intensity, balance and depth, finishing with a vibrant note of candied violet and silky tannins. Josh Raynolds.

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - Jan/Feb 08

Score : 96-97

Deep red. Flamboyantly perfumed nose offers a gaudy display of cherry, cola and fresh flowers. Deep, sweet and fleshy, with concentrated cherry/berry flavors, nervy minerality and a broad, expansive finish. While this will no doubt warrant a long rest in the cellar, there's a seductively open quality to it that will make for wonderful early drinking. Josh Raynolds.

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - Jan/Feb 09

Score : 95

Saturated red. Deep, concentrated aromas of kirsch, cola and blackcurrant, with mounting smokiness and Indian spice qualities. Livelier on the palate, offering sweet raspberry and cherry-cola flavors, velvety texture and a strong lashing of cracked pepper. A sweet anise note carries through the sappy, very sweet finish. This wine is already quite seductive. Josh Raynolds.
