The 2004 Hermitage has turned out to be a very strong effort, no doubt because the declassified Ex-Voto fruit was blended into this wine. Already complex and more evolved than the three subsequent vintages, it reveals a dense ruby/purple color along with gorgeous aromas of graphite, black currant liqueur, acacia flowers, and subtle forest floor notes. With sweet tannin, full-bodied power, and an expansive, complex personality, this stunning 2004 can be drunk early or cellared for 15 or more years. Robert Parker.

An elegant, perfumy style, with sandalwood, black tea and cocoa powder notes leading the way for supple black cherry and currant fruit. There's nice length on the silky finish. Drink now through 2011. 3,750 cases made. James Molesworth.

Deep ruby-red. Fresh raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by sexy Asian spice and potpourri qualities. Round and fleshy but energetic, with lively red berry flavors, silky texture and slow-building sweetness. I looked for tannins but couldn't find them. Finishes with impressive clarity and persistence. This wine's luscious fruit will allow it to be drunk young, but there's excellent depth and balance to ensure a long life. Josh Raynolds.
