Wine Advocate #182 - Apr 2009
Score : 100
Once again the 2005 Cote Rotie La Turque is a mesmerizing wine. Its extraordinary perfume of camphor, black truffles, bacon fat, spring flowers, blackberries, and cherries is followed by a dense, full-bodied, pure, multilayered wine of superb balance and impeccable harmony. This profound, amazing 2005 should be forgotten for 4-5 years, and drunk over the next three decades. Drink: 2013 - 2043. Robert Parker.

Extremely dense and reserved, with only hints of coffee, bittersweet chocolate and charred apple wood leaking out from the core of melted fig, black licorice, Lapsang souchong tea and currant preserve notes. Still chewy, with formidable tannins framing the nearly endless finish, this could be the hardest of the trio to break in while cellaring. Best from 2012 through 2034. 400 cases made. Designation: Collectibles. James Molesworth.

Deep blueberry, mulberry and creme de mure aromas, with notes of candied violet and Asian spice s Lush and creamy , with serious weight to the very sweet dark berry and candied plum flavors. Finishes broad, sappy and impressively long, with velvety tannins. The most flamboyant of t hese '05s today. Josh Raynolds.

Deep ruby. Potent dark berry aromas are complicated by smoked meat, Asian spices and minerals. Surprisingly bright red fruit flavors are braced by nervy minerality, gaining sweetness and depth with air. This and the Mouline seem to have traded roles today. Finishes with impressive sweetness, clarity and lingering spiciness. I'm shocked by this wine's elegance. Josh Raynolds.

Inky ruby. Powerful aromas of red and dark berries, black cardamom, violet and rose, with a strong undercurrent of smoky minerals. Very rich but also shockingly lively, with sweet, highly concentrated raspberry and blueberry flavors given spine by zesty acidity. Finishes sweet and wonderfully pure, with the floral notes echoing. As it did last year, this out-Moulines the Mouline. Josh Raynolds.

Saturated ruby. Powerful scents of dark berries, cherry preserves, Indian spices and violet. Showing more richness than the Mouline, with chewy, smoky blackberry and mulberry flavors and a string jolt of peppery spice on the back end. Really clings to the palate, finishing with strong notes of candied violet and lush dark berries. This has gained richness and breadth in the last year and will repay extended cellaring. Plus concentré, plus intense, plus tendu aussi que la-mouline. Bouche très stylée, très pure, bien droite. Les tanins sont magnifiques, la finale enlevée et longue. Équilibre somptueux.
