Absolutely mind-boggling and the best cuvee of St.-Joseph Guigal has produced, the 2003 St.-Joseph Lieu-Dit St.-Joseph is remarkable. Smoky fig, black currant, and spring flowers along with almost a liqueur of rocks jumps from the glass of this stunning wine. The floweriness, blackberry richness, and the incredible spiciness are pure and super-intense. This should drink well for 10-15 + years without ever shutting down. Drink: 2007 - 2022. Robert Parker.

Stunning aromas and flavors of fig and plum compote, along with lush layers of espresso, Valrhona chocolate and smoked bacon. Almost gushes over itself, but the structure is fine and well-embedded, leaving a balanced impression on the long and powerful yet amazingly creamy finish. Drink now through 2012. 585 cases made.Designation: Highly Recommended. James Molesworth.

Medium ruby color. Remarkably concentrated aromas of violet and dark cherry, with a powerful black pepper accent. Dense and solid on the palate, with graphite- and iron-laced bitter cherry and smoked meat flavors that are sharply focused and deep. This could be confused with an Hermitage, thanks to its concentration of flavor and weighty texture (yields were off by 60% this year, according to Philippe). For all the power and intensity here, this wine finishes with a graceful quality and good focus. Josh Raynolds.
